TBT: My story on Beth Revis for the Mountain Xpress
Living in Asheville, I have the great good luck to live in a sort of cultural hub for western North Carolina. One of the things that makes it a hub is the Mountain Xpress, Asheville’s independent weekly, which I get to write articles for on occasion. Another thing is the fact that a slew of talented novelists live within driving distance and don’t mind talking to a reporter if it gives them a reason to visit downtown.
I first found out about Beth Revis from a conversation I overheard between two librarians. I went on to read all three books in her Across the Universe trilogy in quick succession. And when I found out she was self-publishing a book that was coming out soon, I pitched an article on her to the Xpress. She was great to talk to, very friendly, and passionate about publishing and about literature. It was only my second or third interview, and I think I managed not to embarrass myself, though to this day I haven’t asked her if she’s read Ben Bova’s Exiled from Earth trilogy, something I forgot to ask during our talk.
