Reviews for Tales of a Fifth-Grade Knight!

From Kirkus Reviews:

“Gibson pits his doughty rescuers against such adversaries as an elven monarch who emits truly kingly belches and a once-human jailer with a self-picking nose. . . .A fizzy mix of low humor and brisk action, with promise of more of both to come.”

On Amazon:

“Since before Orpheus headed into Hades to rescue Eurydice, heroes have been going underground to return lost souls. This book trods that well worn path, but it adds an engaging crew, a middle grade sensibility, and a few imaginative twists. The result is a fast-paced and entertaining fantasy adventure.” ~Pop Bop (an Amazon Top 500 Reviewer)

“What a delightful read!! I loved the characters, their relationships and the introduction to a new world underground. It was a great balance of adventure, friends, intrigued and just plain fun.

As a parent, it is nice to see positive, realistic relationships where the characters genuinely care about each other and work together. But that wouldn’t work if the story wasn’t fun, engaging and a joy to read. This book has it all!!”

“I bought this book for my son, who’s in fifth grade. He thought it was a lot of fun, with fast-paced action and a lot of funny stuff, including a few gross-out moments (but not too many for me). He liked the main characters, too, especially the character Max, who provides a lot of the energy of the plot.

For me, any book that gets my kids reading is a good book. Out of curiosity, I read the book, too, and I thought the pace and humor were great. But I also loved some things that kids may not pick up on, like the friendship between the main characters. They’re warm and loyal to each other, but even with all the weird stuff going on around them it’s totally believable.

I hope this turns into a series!”

“My son and I loved reading this book. The main character Isaac is, in his own words, “nothing special” but once he stumbles into the Underground, you’ll see that he is, indeed, very special. . . Kids will learn a lot about friendship and courage while reading this book and, like Isaac and his friends, they will find that they are a lot braver and more resourceful in the face of truly challenging and undesirable circumstance than they ever imagined.

I hope there will be many more adventures for Isaac and his friends in the future!”

“I love imaginative books for kids, and Douglas Gibson’s book stretches the imagination in a delightful way…This is a fun and original book that I’m sure young kids will enjoy. The writing is first rate and the characters are sweet, kind and brave.” ~Robin Landry (an Amazon Top 500 Reviewer)
