Stylish Weirdness

On Monday, August 3, we celebrated the launch of Tales of a Fifth Grade Knight at the Funkatorium in downtown Asheville, and I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came for their support.

If you haven’t already seen the pictures from the event on Facebook, here are a few of my favorites:

(There’s lots more on Facebook. And please “like” my page while you’re there!)

As I said during my brief speech, my biggest takeaway so far is that Tales is representing my hometown by (in the words of one reviewer) carrying off its weirdness with style.

Speaking of reviews, Tales has had a couple of good ones to accompany the launch. The Amazon reviewer who praised the book’s stylish weirdness also said,

“Since before Orpheus headed into Hades to rescue Eurydice, heroes have been going underground to return lost souls. This book trods that well worn path, but it adds an engaging crew, a middle grade sensibility, and a few imaginative twists. The result is a fast-paced and entertaining fantasy adventure.

Kirkus Reviews had some nice things to say, too:

“Gibson pits his doughty rescuers against such adversaries as an elven monarch who emits truly kingly belches and a once-human jailer with a self-picking nose. . . .A fizzy mix of low humor and brisk action, with promise of more of both to come.”

Of course, I’m most interested in your opinion of the book, and you can rest assured others are, too. So I’d be obliged if you would please take the time to post a review of Tales on Amazon.

Click on the link and scroll to the bottom of the page, and you’ll see a button that says “Write a Customer Review.” (You don’t actually need to have bought the book from Amazon to leave a review.) And feel free to leave an honest response!

Oh—and speaking of buying the book, I’m pleased to announce that right now Capstone Young Readers, is offering a 30% off on purchases of Tales to my newsletter subscribers (which includes you). Just go here and type “GIBSON30” in the promo code box when you check out.

For the time being, Tales is the only book of mine that’s out there, and I’m planning several bookstore appearances and school visits over the next couple of months. So, hey, if you have any connection to a school or bookstore, please let me know!

Thanks again, everyone! Onward!
